Health Communications

Health Communications at PHRG consist of planning and using communication strategies to increase awareness of and enhance a healthcare organization's mission, services and products. This may include communications aimed at providers, patients or the community. PHRG designs and implements tools to collect, analyze and disseminate information through the use of customized Internet applications. We provide creative solutions to communicate effectively with your organization's target population(s) via digital and print media.

PHRG's health communications products consist of:

  • Custom database-driven web applications
  • Web-based surveying tools
  • Health-related web sites and portals
  • Printed materials for specific health messages and campaigns
  • Various other forms of custom digital and printed communication as dictated by specific objectives

Example Web Application - RHIME

The Respiratory Health Indicators for Maine (RHIME) system is a repository of lung health data that was jointly developed by the American Lung Association of Maine (ALAM) and the Public Health Resource Group (PHRG) with assistance from the Maine Bureau of Health (BOH). It includes quantitative indicators of disease morbidity and mortality; behavioral and environmental risk factors; use of preventive health services; population demographics; and general health status. Most indicators are expressed as counts (number of health events) and population-based rates. In addition, they are available for specific geographic areas (hospital service areas, regions within Maine, statewide, New England and the US); time periods (specific months, years, five year annual averages); age groups; and genders. “Raw” or record-level data are not currently available within the RHIME system. In short, the system is a:

  • Data warehouse;
  • Comprehensive set of quantitative indicators of respiratory health status and disease risk at the community, state and national levels;
  • Web-based reporting tool for querying the data warehouse and generate custom data reports; and
  • Narrative report, including charts and tables that describe patterns of lung health.
